We usually go to Papa Bill’s each year for the 4th, because this special holiday is also Papa’s birthday! He turned 75 this year…Wow, three quarters of a century and still looking and acting as young as the day I first met him, back in my college days when I fell in love with his son! (Unfortunately, my pics of the birthday boy were blurry, so I‘m including one taken on a different day!)
The old movie saying, “There’s no place like home,” rings true for us in the form of “There’s no place like Papa’s farm!” Sometimes we laugh so hard I feel like I’m on the set of an old “Ma and Pa Kettle” movie! As usual, this visit with the cousins and Papa Bill and Mama Jane was way too short and way too fun!!
On a side note, while traveling to Papa’s we stopped at a gas station where a large sign stood in the aisle with these words:
“Land of the FREE, because of the BRAVE!” It reminded me how grateful I am for those who labored to make our country what it is today! May God bless America!
